Alastair Gordon

Alastair Gordon is a London based artist and writer. His paintings feature in various international collections and art fairs. Recent solo exhibitions at Aleph Contemporary (London) and City and Guilds of London Art Schools where he served as resident artist in 2020.

Gordon received his BA Hons at Glasgow School of Art (2002) and MA from Wimbledon School of Art (2012). After graduating he was awarded the Departure Arts residency in east London where he went on to establish Husk Gallery. Works feature in various public, corporate and private collections including the Simmons and Simmons Collection, Ahmanson Collection and Beth de Woody Collection. He has received several awards for his painting including Shoosmiths Prize in 2014, co-recipient of Dentons Art Prize in 2020, and shortlisted for various national and international prizes including Griffin Art Prize, Threadneedle Painting Prize and Jacksons Painting Prize.

Gordon lectures at universities and art schools across the UK and is course leader for the Graduate Residency programme at Leith School of Art, Edinburgh. He is co-founder of the Morphē Arts Trust and writes for various publications and art journals. His latest book, Why Art Matters, was recently acquired by Tate archive in London. He draws every day and works from his South London overlooking his communal garden.
