Sukkot: Building Scaffolding for Healing

The holiday of Sukkot (סוּכּוֹת), is also known as a time of our joy (זְמַן שִׂמְחָתֵנוּ). How do we find joy during times of personal and collective sickness, isolation, and grief? The structure of the sukkah and the multi-sensory rituals of the festival provide a starting point for discussion. In this presentation, Aimee will explore the multimedia art and installations of Ezra Benus, Mira Burack, and Meirav Ong that invite individual and communal healing practices within and beyond the gallery space.

Aimee Rubensteen is a curator, writer, and art historian based in Miami, FL. Aimee curates physical and virtual spaces for viewing art, but also, for touching, smelling, listening, eating, and questioning. She is the founding art editor of PROTOCOLS, a cultural and political journal cultivating art and writing from across the global Jewish diaspora. Aimee has curated exhibitions across the US, co-founded Rojas + Rubensteen Projects, and worked as an acquisitions curator for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. She earned her master’s degree at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London.
