To celebrate the publication of the Here After catalog, which includes an extensive essay by Dr. Jonathan Anderson on explorations of paradise and the afterlife in contemporary art, join the Bridge Projects Team and Board for a two-part event on September 17, 5 –7 PM.
In his talk, Jonathan Anderson will discuss the “new visibility” of religion in contemporary art. While highlighting a number of artists and exhibitions, Anderson will focus on how prominent curators, critics, and scholars have been talking about religion, drawing out “interpretive horizons” within which the art world is exploring the topic.
We will also be celebrating the publication of Here After. Designed by the award-winning studio Content Object, Here After features color plates of works from all thirty-seven participating artists. Accompanying the plates and installation spreads are curatorial remarks about each work, plus excerpts from source texts each artist was invited to supply. Additional essays by Ted Gioia and Jennifer Sliwka discuss music in heaven, depictions of the heavenly realms throughout art history, and the explorations of paradise and the afterlife in contemporary art. Copies of Here After will be available for purchase.
Drinks and refreshments will be served.
Please RSVP.
